This is a street in Brisbane taken from where I always park my car when I visit the city.
The building to the left of the blue one down the bottom is home to a company called "ARCHIVES" and on the sign in front of their shop they state "one million books".
Up the top in the building with the pointed roof, it used to be a church and is now home to "Pancakes" which used to be called "The Pancake Manor". It is beautiful inside and sell really thick pancakes in stacks as well as other items. I should go back one time as just a few of them really fill you up.

ANZAC Day - Four of Five
This statue was unveiled on 29 August 1992.
It is a World War 2 memorial which depicts an Army nurse tending a wounded soldier. Around the base are insignia of many women’s services, as well as a replica Victoria Cross, citation and photograph of VC winner, Corporal Jack French of Crows Nest, and other memorabilia.

ANZAC Day - Three of Five
This is my one month Anniversary which falls of a special day for Australia.
Today is April 25th - ANZAC Day. ANZAC stands for Australian and New Zealand Army Corps.
This Vietnam memorial is honouring those who died or served in the war in Vietnam from 1962-1973. It depicts an act of mercy performed many times, an Australian soldier directing a medical helicopter to descend and tend to his wounded mate.

ANZAC Day - Two of Five
The ANZAC Shrine, which is 10 metres in diameter and consists of a Grecian Doric circular colonnade of 18 columns representing the year of peace, 1918.
Written around the top coping are the names of the battles in which Australian units figured prominently - ANZAC, Cocos Islands, Romani, Jerusalem, Damascus, Pozieres, Bullecourt, Messines, Ypres, Amiens, Villers-Bretonneaux, Mont St Quentin, Hindenburg Line.
In the centre is the Eternal Flame of Remembrance, set in a bronze urn with the word Remembrance repeated around the bottom.

ANZAC Day - One of Five
On Tuesday, 25th of April, we will pay tribute to those who fought and those who lost their lives in conflict. I will be posting photo's from around the shrine of rememberance over 5 days.
This memorial honours participants in the South West Pacific campaign and depicts a wounded Australian soldier descending the Kokoda Trail assisted by a strong dependable Papua New Guinean leading him to safety. They are being passed by a fresh, determined soldier, resolute in the task ahead.

Thes trees have only be newly plated and still have the cables attached to keep them stable.
The white pattern on the black wall is from the sun and just walking beside them makes me think of California.
Indigo was formed in 1995 combining the skills of project management, architectural design and marketing and today has emerged as one of the top 20 privately owned companies in Queensland.

A new fad
Over time the youth of each generation adopted a particular style. At one time we had the "punk" generation (with the very big spiky hair and heaps of piercings).
Now we have the "goth" generation. All around Brisbane city we have the youth dressed in black with various adornments (like the backpack with the cross). In the major meeting areas around the city you will see them everywhere.
Goth is a modern subculture that first became popular during the early 1980s within the gothic rock scene, a sub-genre of post punk.

Unusual building entrance
I can't remember the name of this building, but the covering over the entranceway is quite unusual. To the right is a film crew that I saw packing up. They must have been using a car in their filming as there was two ramps being used.
I guess they thought the entrance was unusual too, that it would be good to use in their filming.

Is anybody calling?
We still have a large number of payphones in the city. It seems all over the world these things are disappearing because of the mobile phone (or cell phone).
Our main phone service provider is Telstra (formerly telecom) and is a majority Government owned company. It is being sold off to private buyers and will soon be a privately owned company.

Feeding the ducks
This is the boardwalk around Forest Lake in the suburb, Forest Lake. This is a planned community with differently named estates.
These people were feeding bread to the ducks and they would all rush to get the food. From the road that runs past forest lake, the treasures around the lake are hidden from view although you can still see the lake. I'm glad I got out to have a good look.

The story bridge was built to create employment and help bring Brisbane out of the Depression. It started construction May 24th, 1935.
This is also one of the three major bridges in the world that you can climb to the top (through the Story Bridge Adventure Climb company, the other bridges are in Sydney and Auckland)

More from the park
This is from Seventeen Mile Rocks Environmental park and shows the largest section of the old crusher plant that is now for viewing only. The dangerous areas are fenced off and in the second level there is chairs for you to rest.
The green sloping part that goes above the structure is where fossilized coral was lifted up before going into the crusher part.

This is a very predominant icon in Brisbane City. You can see this from almost anywhere in the city.
The symbol above the time is the Suncorp/Metway bank logo. Suncorp and Metway banks merged years ago and joined their logos together to make the one they have now.
